Motoya Nakamura is Head of the Satellite Constellation Project Group in the Space Systems Business Development Department at IHI Corporation, sitting within the company's Aero Engine, Space and Defense Business Area. In this role he leads IHI's flagship initiative to build a 24-satellite Earth observation constellation combining synthetic aperture radar, optical, infrared, hyperspectral, radio frequency and VDES sensors — a sovereign capability project intended to strengthen Japan's national security and support civilian and commercial applications, with imagery to be shared with allies and like-minded partners.
Motoya joined IHI in 1994 and his career has spanned the company's heavy engineering and energy businesses, including as Project Manager and later General Manager in the Power Plant and Energy & Plant Operations divisions, and as Vice President and Director of Operations at IHI INC. in the United States.
From 2021 to 2026, he served as Managing Director of IHI Engineering Australia, where he led IHI's local operations and partnerships before taking up his current role in Tokyo. Motoya holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology and an MBA from Globis University.
