Dr S. Kate Conroy is General Manager Australian AI Safety Institute and Responsible AI Lead Royal Australian Air Force (SERCAT 5 Reservist), Adjunct Professor QUT Centre for Robotics and Adjunct Associate Professor Human Centred Computing, University of Queensland. She has a PhD in philosophy (epistemology, cognitive science and applied ethics) from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and BA(Hons) History and Philosophy of Science, University of Melbourne, specialising in the philosophy and psychology of statistics. Previous roles include Chief Scientist Trusted Autonomous Systems Defence Cooperative Research Centre (TASDCRC) and AI Safety and Assurance Advisor Queensland Government. Dr Conroy is author of the ‘Iterative Unleashing’ conceptual model adopted by the New Zealand Ministry for Regulation AI Guidance (Feb 2026), lead contributor to the National Framework for the Assurance of AI in Government and Queensland Foundational AI Risk Assessment (FAIRA). She was product owner of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Gateway (RAS-Gateway), project lead for Responsible AI for Defence (RAID) Toolkit, lead author of A Method for Ethical AI in Defence DSTG Technical Report and co-editor of Good Data published by the Institute for Network Cultures. She winner Women in AI APAC 2025 (Defence and Intelligence).
